Tiger Stripes

Tiger Stripes | Amanda Nell Eu | MY/TW/FR 2023 | 95 Min | DCP

Puberty, for most, is a horror show. Twelve-year-old Zaffan has enough problems as it is, as a rebellious teen with a knack for TikTok dance videos at a Muslim school. But she soon realizes that the changes in her body don’t just feel monstrous—they genuinely are! In her award-winning Tiger Stripes, Malaysian director Amanda Nell Eu interweaves rural folklore with coming-of-age themes to create a ferocious, heartfelt fantasy around female self-empowerment, carried by an amazing young ensemble.
