A cute-and-cuddly callback to the kiddie adventure movies of the 1970s and 1980s—that’s Riddle of Fire, a story about kids that simply want to play the newest video game. But mother went ahead and password-protected the damn TV. She will only give them the code when the little rascals bring her blueberry cake from the bakery. The odyssey that follows, in which a witch, bad boys, and eggs come to play a role, is rendered with great fervor and nostalgia by director Weston Razooli. Shot on 16mm film, the grainy images provide a dreamlike atmosphere. Wholly enchanting! (mk)
