Ralphie feels powerless, spent, desperate. His rage about everything and everyone makes him a ticking time bomb, until his buddy Jason tells him about a group that helps “guys like us.” In the Manodrome, leader Dan separates the “fathers” from the “sons.” They are to support, help and heal each other, and under no circumstances let the “gynosphere” seep in. South African director John Trengove conceived this sinister psycho-thriller as a complex character study of Jesse Eisenberg’s quasi-incel who is driven to the edge by his charismatic ersatz-father Adrien Brody. Provocative! (mk)
