In this spectacular juxtaposition of documentary and sci-fi horror vision, a fictional Dr. Hellstrom talks about how ultimately insects might win the fight for survival against humans. He has various theories to back up his assumption. They are illustrated with marvelous shots of butterflies, wasps, ants, and many other arthropods, breathtakingly captured by three camerapeople and set to Lalo Schifrin’s unsettling score. The Academy Award-winning The Hellstrom Chronicle still packs a punch today, not least because one has the sense that the good doctor was right about a lot of things. (mk)
