Junta Yamaguchi applies his debut’s conceit of the infinite two minutes to his sophomore work, engaging in plenty of horseplay as he sticks a hostel in a tranquil little town in a time loop. Waitress Mikoto and the rest of the staff struggle to stay in control, even if their house goes by the rule, “We entertain our guests, no matter what nature throws at us.” The egg-timer limit and the insatiable camerawork make the screen teem with life. The ensemble takes us on an enthralling ride through the coils of the story, plagued by the big questions of life—and lukewarm sake. Kanpai! (tt)
