Part of An Evening with Michael Ironside
In the year 2084, construction worker Douglas Quad lets REKALL Inc. implant an artificial memory of a Mars vacation in his mind—but soon finds himself in a deadly maze of identities. Quaid is now supposedly a secret agent named Hauser who has rebelled against his former boss, the dictatorial Martian governor Cohaagen. The latter sics his henchmen—among them Michael Ironside—on Quaid. Dutch master Paul Verhoeven adapted a short story by Philip K. Dick into this legendary VFX-heavy sci-fi thriller with philosophical underpinnings. (mk)

Paul Verhoeven
Verhoeven, Paul hardly needs an introduction. The legendary and controversial filmmaker established himself with films like Turkish Delight (1973), starring a young Rutger Hauer. He made the leap from his Dutch home country to Hollywood in the 1980s, directing all-time classics like RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), Showgirls (1995), and Starship Troopers (1997). His most recent movie, Benedetta, which deals with piety and frivolity, premiered in Cannes in 2021.
